I’ve been itching to try the iPhone’s sdk and that led me to install what Steve Job calls “so good you can lick it”. I’m definitely not gonna lick a mac and for my case a laptop.

Laptop? I definitely won’t buy a Mac, but I can convert it to a Hackintosh, running on OsX86. It’s been a frustrating day for me, getting my hackintosh laptop to work just the way I want it to be. Oh well, for those with similar hardware this would definitely help, though some could find this a bit helpful, specially the latter part of this guide(multibooting).

First, my hardware. This is the specs of my laptop, an MSI GX600 basic edition:
CPU: 2x Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU T5550 @ 1.83GHz
RAM: 2GB DDR 2
GFX: Nvidia Geforce 8600M GT 512MB
HD: WDC WD1200BEVS-0
DVD: Optiarc DVD RW AD-7530B
WIFI: Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 4965 AG or AGN [Kedron] Network Connection
SATA: Silicon Image, Inc. Sil 3531 [SATALink/SATARaid] Serial ATA Controller
ETHERNET: Realtek RTL8111/8168B PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet controller

Next, get a copy of the distro you’ve like to use. I’ve searched around the net to find what distros that may work for my laptop, and found two that might work, Kalyway and iATKOS. Unfornately, I wasn’t able to find a 10.5.5 for Kalyway, so i’ve used iATKOS. Next burn it to a DVD.
Next boot up the DVD, when the bootloader screen appear, add “cpus=2 -f -v” as extra options(-v is optional, just so you know what is error if you would encounter one).
After booting up to the installer, use the disk utilities to format a drive to HFS+. Select a drive/partition to install. This drive should be formatted to FAT32 before formatting it to HFS+.
Here’s the hard and long part. Choose the install options for your computer. It’s a matter of trial and error which combination will work for you. Here’s what i used:

Here’s what I did for the chameleon bootloader and grub:
after completing the install, don’t remove the dvd just yet. Boot to your newly installed osx, just fill up some and informations. and restarted.
Remove the DVD. Now, the grub bootloader is gone, time to restore it. Grab a live CD or USB of your Linux OS(what follows is for ubuntu, how to issue command as root and the editor for your linux distro may vary) and boot it up.
Open up a console/terminal. restore your grub bootloader. (just google up how to restore you grub)
I wasn’t planning to make it my mainstay OS and really don’t stick to a single OS so this only covers multi-booting.
-On your linux, create a very small ext3 partition.And also flag it as boot.
-Download the chameleon bootloader and extract the contents on the root of the partition
-open up your menu.lst for ubuntu just issue this to a console
"sudo gedit /boot/grub/menu.lst"
-append something like this:
title Leopard(Darwin bootloader)
kernel (hdX,Y)/boot/chameleon/boot
-”hdX,Y” just add the device number and partition where you put the chameleon boot loader.

Now you can you can triple boot your windows/linux/osx86.

BTW: Only the wifi/airport doesn’t worked for me. I’ll be trying ideneb. Gonna post the results here.
